“Stress” is a word we all throw around a lot, without really understanding what it means or what it does. Simply put, stress is just the different ways your body reacts physically to being disturbed. Often we are aware of being stressed, but many people are under considerable stress without being consciously aware of it.

The truth is that even if you feel fine, the invisible effects of stress can have serious repercussions for both your physical and mental health down the line. Stress can suppress your immune system, with far reaching effects. Wounds heal more slowly, you’ll get sick more often and latent infections can flare up again. Not to mention chronic inflammation that can lead to serious conditions such as heart disease. Being constantly sick also causes additional stress, possibly leading to a self-sustaining downward spiral.

Bowel movements may not be a topic of polite conversation, but being constantly bloated and constipated can have a negative impact on your quality of life. Chronic stress can mess with your digestive track in many way. Ultimately you could be saddled with food sensitivity and yet more inflammation.
